Galen Le Cheminant serves as the General Manager and Director of Squash at the Charleston Racquet Club, bringing decades of international playing, coaching, and club management experience to the club. Originally from the southwest of England near Bath, Galen moved to Charleston after leading operations at the Concourse Athletic Club in Atlanta. He and his wife, Claire, who is originally from England’s Midlands region, have a daughter, Amy. With more than 37 years involved in the game, Galen has dedicated his career to growing squash at every level from beginner development to elite international competition.
As a player, Galen competed professionally throughout England and Germany, including in the prestigious English National League and German Bundesliga. His playing accomplishments include serving as Captain of England’s Over-35 National Team, winning the Swiss Open Over-35 Championship, and reaching the finals of the British Amateurs, British Nationals, and British Open in 2006. He was also a multiple-time Cambridgeshire Champion and County Captain, competing and leading teams at the highest levels of English squash.
Beyond competition, Galen has built an outstanding reputation as a coach, mentor, and club leader. He has managed several squash clubs in England and directed National League teams featuring some of the world’s top-ranked players. As a certified England Squash Elite Level III coach, he has worked with players ranging from first-time beginners to professionals who achieved Top 10 world rankings. At the Charleston Racquet Club, Galen oversees club operations while leading the squash program with a focus on player development, community, and fostering a welcoming environment for players of all ages and abilities.
